New CAPCE Course for Mental Health Awareness Month 2025

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this May, American CME has launched a new CAPCE-accredited course on mental health in EMS:
Mental Wellness for EMS Providers

This course reviews the impact of chronic stress, burnout, and trauma on EMS providers, emphasizing self-awareness, resilience, and sustainable recovery. Participants will learn practical strategies for managing stress, recognizing early signs of burnout, and implementing trauma-informed care. The course includes interactive activities, evidence-based interventions, and tools to promote long-term well-being and professional longevity.

The course includes a 55-minute video, student evaluation, and final quiz. The course also links to the instructor’s freely accessible website with tools and resources on mental wellness intended to support EMS providers, their families, and support systems.
About the Instructor
Morgan Gutzman, Paramedic, BS, and OTD-Doctor of Occupational Therapy, created this course for her Doctoral Capstone at Western Michigan University. Upon completing her doctorate in April of 2025, Morgan partnered with American CME to have the course professionally produced and delivered so that it would be widely accessible and accredited for state and NREMT continuing education. Morgan gives special thanks to Eric Schrank, BAS, CCT-Paramedic-IC, Professor of Emergency Medical Technology at Schoolcraft College, for his invaluable mentorship and support throughout the development of this course.
