American CME has updated its system to include the National EMS ID (NEMSID) with course completion data when it submits CEUs to the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE).
CAPCE reports American CME’s CAPCE CEUs to the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). While the NREMT and most states currently still validate CAPCE CEUs using the NREMT or State EMS license number, the NEMSID number, which was launched by NREMT in 2020, is becoming more standard. Even if you do not have an active NREMT number, some state EMS offices–including those in Arkansas, Massachusetts, Utah, and West Virginia–have real-time reporting with the NREMT and use the NEMSID to apply CAPCE CEUs to state EMS transcripts. More states are expected to adopt the NEMSID for validating CAPCE CEUs in the near future. Be prepared by visiting your My Account page to ensure your profile includes your NEMSID number.
Follow these steps to add your 12-digit NEMSID number to your American CME profile:
- Log in and on your Account Profile, scroll down to the NEMSID field. Click the pencil icon to open the editor.

2. Enter your 12-digit NEMSID number and click Save Changes.

That’s it!
If you do not see NEMSID field on your profile, this PDF guide shows how to add it.
