Sepsis is simply a systemic inflammatory response caused by an infection. Patients diagnosed as “septic” number in the hundreds of thousands annually. It is essential that prehospital emergency medical professionals have a working knowledge of exactly what sepsis is and how to treat it aggressively, if necessary.
